Mandala is a liquid drum and bass single from Ares Hill, released on March 31, 2015 and published a week later on April 7.

Mandalas are spiritual artworks that originated in the East but later became popular in the West and Christianity. While creating a mandala, the artist prays, contemplates, meditates; particularly, the Christian seeks to create the art in communion with God.

After learning about the tradition of mandalas in February 2015, I created one myself and was amazed at the impact it had on my spirituality. As a person who tends to be very centered on my own thoughts and ideas, I need to practice habits which engage the other part of me, my senses. I knew I had to employ this tradition of communing with God through art with an untraditional but familiar art form--electronic music.

While I leave you, the listener, to judge the quality and enjoyability of this track, I recognize God's influence throughout the production process. For instance, I consider the very fact that this song is being released this soon an act of grace. Normally I take several months to work on a song as close to perfection as I am capable, but for the first time I was working on a deadline and had a month to finish this track. Additionally, writer's block was poisoning my imagination, which rarely happens since I often work on bursts of inspiration. As I prayed, though, I slowly found note patterns to work with and synth programs that played the patterns well. Before beginning work, I thought the track would either be incomplete or notably subpar, but I can honestly say this track represents my best efforts and I am happy with the results.

I convey this story not because I wish to coerce you into enjoying the song, but because I wish to remind you that our God is present in this world and works through our senses and our imaginations if we let him.
